Mirrors in the Dressing Room: Which Size Shows the Entire Body

Anyone who wants to check their outfit before leaving the house needs a mirror that shows the complete silhouette. Many dressing rooms are equipped with smaller mirrors that only capture sections. But what minimum size must a mirror have so that you can see yourself from head to toe? And how high should it hang so that the proportions are correct?

The Minimum Height: Half Your Body Height

Physically, a mirror with half your body height is sufficient to capture the entire body. For a body height of 180 cm, 90 cm of mirror height is therefore enough, provided the upper edge hangs at eye level and the lower edge at half body height. In practice, however, larger models are recommended because you can then stand more flexibly at different distances and have enough clearance even with shoes or hairstyle. Common standing mirrors therefore measure 160 to 200 cm in height.

Width and Format for Comfortable Viewing

The width should be at least 40 cm so that you can also view yourself from the side or slightly turned. Narrow models with 50 to 60 cm width fit into almost any niche, while wider variants from 70 cm offer more comfort and visually open up the room. Portrait format Mirrors are particularly suitable for dressing rooms because they emphasize the vertical line and require little floor space.

Mounting Height: Lower Edge 20 to 30 cm Above the Floor

So that you can also see your shoes and the hem of dresses or trousers, the lower edge of the mirror should be about 20 to 30 cm above the floor. The upper edge then ends between 180 and 210 cm, depending on the mirror height. If you hang the mirror on the wall, you can mark this height with a spirit level. Standing mirrors can be positioned flexibly and easily moved if necessary.

Lighting and Distance for Clear Vision

Make sure that the mirror is evenly illuminated, ideally by daylight or neutral white lights from the front or side. A distance of at least 100 cm between mirror and viewer ensures that you capture the entire silhouette without distortion. In small dressing rooms, a wall-mounted mirror can save space, while in spacious rooms, freestanding models with decorative frames also come into their own.

Material and Frame: Stable and Matching the Interior Style

High-quality mirrors have a distortion-free glass surface and a stable frame made of wood, metal or plastic. Baroque frames with ornaments create elegant accents, simple metal frames suit modern interiors. For standing mirrors, ensure a secure back panel and non-slip feet so that the model remains stable even if accidentally bumped.
