A house built to the scale of the furniture

Baroque furniture needs height, light and distance. Our house on Hammer Strasse offers all three: brickwork from 1870, round arches, high ceilings and a black and white chequerboard floor that carries the gilded frames without competing with them.

That is why you will not find a warehouse full of boxes here, but an exhibition. You see the proportions, the veneer, the shine of the gold leaf and the fall of a velvet fabric exactly as they will look in your own rooms.

Two floors, many rooms

The exhibition is laid out like a home, not like a sales floor. A salon with sofas and seating groups, a dining room with dining tables and chairs, a sleeping area, and cabinets for mirrors, lamps and chandeliers and home accessories.

So you see not only single pieces but whole combinations: which console table belongs under which mirror, how a commode works next to an armchair, how much gold a room can take. Exactly the questions that are hard to answer on a screen.

A part of the exhibition belongs to the designs of Harald Glööckler: furniture, home decoration and textiles in his own handwriting. Which pieces are in the house at any time changes with the collections. Online you will find the range in the Harald Glööckler Shop.

Furniture made to measure

Not every room fits standard dimensions. Many of our pieces are therefore built to order by our manufactories: different measurements, a different fabric, a different colour of the finish. In the showroom this is settled fastest, because the original is standing right beside you. More under Furniture by order.

Do I need an appointment?

Within the opening hours you can simply drop by. If you would like to see a particular piece, let us know beforehand: then we check whether it is currently in the house.

Is the whole online shop in the showroom?

No. The shop holds several thousand articles, the exhibition shows a selection of them that changes regularly. In return, the house also holds one-off pieces that are not listed online.

Can I buy on site and take things with me?

Many visitors take smaller home accessories straight away. Large furniture is delivered by our forwarding agent; the conditions are listed under shipping methods and costs.

Where exactly is the showroom?

At Hammer Strasse 64 in 45239 Essen, in the Fischlaken district between Essen Werden and Kettwig. From Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Bochum or Wuppertal you are there in well under an hour.
