An evening above the bay of Cannes
Cannes, May 2026. Some of the finest evenings of the festival season on the Côte d'Azur are those to which only a hand-picked circle is invited. During the Cannes Film Festival, fashion designer Philipp Plein opened his villa in the hills above the city for a soirée with a hand-picked circle of guests. Marvin Schertl and Dr Sina Schertl were among the guests, representing Casa Padrino.

La Jungle du Roi
The house Philipp Plein named La Jungle du Roi sits above the Croisette, where the roads narrow and the view opens across the entire bay. Palms and cypresses surround the property, the terraces face south towards the sea. It was designed together with the Milan architecture studio AquiliAlberg, in a clear, darkly toned signature with a great deal of glass and light.
For Plein the villa is not only a retreat but also a place of work: during the summer months he brings his design team here and develops collections in this house. Over the years it has acquired a reputation of its own, well beyond the Côte d'Azur.
For a house such as Casa Padrino, rooms like these are the actual working context. Anyone furnishing villas along this coast has to understand how people live and receive there: which routes guests take, where an evening gathers, and which materials survive a Mediterranean summer.
The host: a career that began with furniture
Philipp Plein, born in Munich in 1978, founded his label in 1998 and built it into an internationally run fashion house that today also includes Plein Sport, Billionaire and Plein Golf. He has received several GQ Awards and recently opened the Plein Hotel in Milan, his first venture into hospitality.
Less well known is how it all started: with furniture. Plein first had pieces made from stainless steel, among them a dog bed whose photograph travelled through the lifestyle magazines. He had his designs upholstered in Italian leather, exhibited them at the Cologne furniture fair and turned the leather offcuts into his first bags. The fashion label grew out of that line.
This is also why an evening like this one means more to both sides than a social appointment. Two houses that think from the material outwards, both of them coming from fashion: Marvin Schertl too began as a fashion designer, with designs in the style of the 1920s and 1930s, before transferring his eye for proportion, surface and craftsmanship to furniture.
A circle one is invited into
Evenings in this house are deliberately kept exclusive, and the guest list is put together personally. In previous years Paris Hilton, Sofia Richie, Winnie Harlow and boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather were among those present when Plein showed his resort collection in the villa's garden during the film festival, as were figures such as former Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld and actress Eva Longoria.
This year Marvin Schertl and Dr Sina Schertl were among those invited. For Casa Padrino such encounters carry real value: clients for handcrafted luxury furniture are rarely won through advertising, but through trust and personal recommendation.

Casa Padrino on the Côte d'Azur
The coast between Saint-Tropez and Monaco is a core market for Casa Padrino. Villas, yachts, grand hotels and boutiques along this shoreline are among the spaces the house works for, often as a complete furnishing from the first design to final installation. Production is largely by hand: furniture in Italy, ceramics by Spanish artisans, brass in Indian workshops, together with solid marble, gold leaf and hand upholstery. Dimensions, materials and finishes can be chosen freely for every project, up to unique one-off pieces.
The evening was part of a dense season. Back in 2025, during the film festival, Casa Padrino had been honoured at the Beach Ball Gala Dinner & Awards at the Majestic for outstanding design quality and international brand positioning. In 2026 the house returned to the same gala, this time providing the awards themselves. Added to that are the Vienna Opera Ball, the Bal de Noël in Monaco, the Women of Monaco Awards and the Bal de la Rose in Monte Carlo. Internationally, ELLE Decoration, Paris Match, Marie Claire and Forbes France have reported on the brand.
