The motif
A winged putto drives a chariot shaped like a shell, drawn by two dogs on fine chains. At the end of the team a small lidded vase with floral painting stands on a scrolled support. Centrepieces of this kind stood in the middle of the laid table in the 19th century.

Craftsmanship and painting
The figures in white porcelain are painted by hand, while chariot, rocaille base and scrolled support are made of gilt bronze and mounted individually. The traces are of metal and movable. The piece is made of slip-cast porcelain which gains its hardness and gloss in the firing. Painting and gilding are applied by hand after the firing and fired a second time.

Placement and effect
At 48.6 cm long the centrepiece fills the middle of a dining table or a console. It needs a clear view from both sides, because the team is told along its length.

Material and care
Porcelain is colourfast and does not age, a soft dry cloth is all it takes. Hand-painted areas and gilding must not go into the dishwasher. Because every piece is painted by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and brushwork are part of the process and are not a defect.
