A young dancer leans against a low parapet, her gaze lowered, her hands resting at her sides. She wears a long pleated cloth with a tasselled belt, the kind of oriental fashion that reached European salons around 1900. The sculptor captured the calm between two movements rather than the pose.

Fine chasing down to the ornamental band
The bronze carries a light golden brown patina; folds, fringes and the relief parapet are individually reworked by hand. A second fine relief on the back of the parapet keeps the figure interesting from behind as well. It rests on a turned base of black marble with light veining.

At 57 cm and more than 14 kg the sculpture has real weight. On a console in the salon, on the mantelpiece, in a lit display cabinet or on a reception desk it is a piece that wants to be read from close up.
