This chandelier by Casa Padrino is not built round but elongated. A flat gold-coloured frame of 125 cm hangs on two chains from a ceiling rail, carrying densely arranged, sharply cut crystal prisms in two tiers.
The format solves a practical problem. Above a long table or a kitchen island a round chandelier either looks too small or overhangs the edges. This one follows the axis of the table and spreads the light along its full length instead of concentrating it in the middle.
The prisms hang free in two staggered rows. From the side this forms a dense, closed curtain; seen at an angle from above the view stays open between the rods. Switched on, the refraction draws a long band of reflections onto the table top.
At just 40 cm high the piece builds low and works under ordinary ceiling heights of 2.50 m, where a multi-tier chandelier would hang too deep. The 26 kg are spread across two suspension points.
