A rampant lion embroidered in gold stands within a laurel wreath at the centre of the cushion. Both are old signs, and both work here above all as shape: circle, figure, frame.

The ground is a deep dark green, enclosed by a fine gold border line set just in from the edge. That line is the detail that turns a motif into a composition.

No fringing, which makes this the plainest of the heraldic cushions. Green and gold get along equally well with wood, leather and dark upholstery.
