Blue on white is the oldest decor in European porcelain painting and still works for one simple reason: it goes with everything. Here the decor is not merely painted but modelled in relief: flowers and leaves stand proud of the wall, and the cobalt blue pools darker in the hollows.

The shape is flat and wide rather than tall. It stands on four curved feet, the rim is scalloped, and the lid carries a gilded finial shaped as a pine cone. Gold also runs along the leaf veins, the rim lines and the feet.

On a chest of drawers, in the bathroom or on a desk it takes jewellery, keys or odds and ends and turns them into a still life rather than a pile. Reproduction in baroque style, not an antique.
