The stag is the heraldic animal of upmarket country-house interiors, and this figure takes it seriously: head raised, antlers with cleanly worked tips, a coat texture that actually reads as fur in raking light, and none of the softened shapes that give cheap castings away instantly.

It is cast in solid iron and correspondingly heavy. You feel it when you pick it up and you see it when you set it down: the figure stands rock-steady on its base plate, even on a mantelpiece or a narrow shelf. The bronze-coloured patina catches light on the raised areas and settles dark in the recesses, which makes the piece look more sculptural than a single-colour lacquered one.

At around 30 cm high it is large enough to stand alone and small enough for a sideboard, mantelpiece or bookshelf. It works well beside dark wood, in front of book spines, or alongside candlesticks.
