Commodes you do not push into a corner
A commode is storage – and in the baroque it was always more: the piece by which the rank of a room could be read. The commodes by Casa Padrino stand in that line: curved fronts, handmade fittings, tops that take up the light.
The front makes the piece
The bombé – the outward curve of the front – is the test of every baroque commode. It has to flow across all the drawers, or the form breaks. That is why these carcasses are built by hand, not on a line.
Add fittings that belong to the style rather than being picked at random, and surfaces from high gloss through gold leaf to a calm natural tone.
Where it stands
In the bedroom facing the bed, in the entrance hall as the first gesture, in a hotel room as the one piece that lifts it above standard. Large rooms carry a wide commode easily; in smaller ones it works as a solitaire.
