Colour temperature governs the effect more strongly than brightness does. Warm light around 2200 to 2700 kelvin flatters skin, timber and textiles and reads like candle or firelight. Cool white light from 4000 kelvin upward makes a bar look like a filling station, turns faces sallow and makes any site appear cheaper than it is.
Consistency matters just as much. Mix colour temperatures across one surface and the result reads as untidy, even if nobody can name the reason. Anyone adding fittings later should therefore know the colour temperature already installed and stay with it, rather than buying whatever is cheapest.
The third point is dimming. A site needs different light at eight in the evening than at midnight. Dimmable circuits or several separately switched groups cost little to install and give the operation a tool for steering the mood across the evening.

Outdoor fittings on a beach face harder conditions than in a garden.
