This pendant lamp by Casa Padrino works not with glass but with metal in motion. Hundreds of fine link chains hang down from a crown, are gathered by a ring at mid-height and continue to fall below it until they end in a slim bundle. The silhouette follows the empire cut: narrow at the top, wide in the middle, tapering at the bottom.

Because the chains are not rigid, the form is never quite the same. A draught is enough to shift the surface slightly. The light comes from within and passes between the strands, creating a warm, restless pattern rather than a clear cone of light.

The antique brass finish is kept velvety matt. It takes up the light softly and therefore suits walnut, dark leather, velvet and natural stone.

At 104 cm high and only 40 cm in diameter this piece is decidedly slim. It falls in length rather than width and is therefore suited to places where height is available but space is not: beside a staircase, in a window recess, above a side table or in pairs over a narrow bar.
