Luxury Furniture Juan-les-Pins: Furnishing the Riviera's First Summer Resort

Juan-les-Pins is the place that invented the Riviera summer. Until the 1920s this coast was a winter destination: the grand hotels closed in May, the aristocracy went home, and nobody of standing sat in the Mediterranean sun. A handful of Americans changed that here, in a pine grove between Antibes and the cap, and the town has had a different character from its neighbours ever since. Casa Padrino, one of the leading international specialists for luxury furniture and high-end interior decoration, delivers to Juan-les-Pins and across the whole of the Cote d'Azur.

This page starts with that history, because it explains the architecture, and the architecture decides the furniture.

The town that turned the season around

In the early 1920s the American couple Gerald and Sara Murphy persuaded a hotel in Antibes to stay open through the summer, and brought their friends. Those friends included Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, who spent summers on this stretch of coast, and Tender is the Night grew out of it. Cole Porter came, Picasso came, and word travelled that the Mediterranean in August was not a hardship but a pleasure.

What turned a fashion into a town was money. In 1925 the American financier Frank Jay Gould built a casino and the Hotel Provencal here, and deliberately marketed Juan-les-Pins as a summer resort. Within a few years the pine grove behind the beach had filled with villas and apartment buildings in the style of the moment, which was Art Deco: rounded balconies, geometric plasterwork, horizontal lines, sun terraces facing the water.

That is the essential difference from every other town on this coast. Nice, Cannes and Menton were built for winter guests, with high-ceilinged Belle Epoque rooms designed to be lived in indoors. Juan-les-Pins was built for summer, and its rooms open outwards.

The third chapter began in 1960, when Jazz a Juan was founded in the Pinede Gould. It is the oldest jazz festival in Europe, and it brought Ray Charles, Miles Davis and Coltrane into a pine grove a few metres from the sand. The festival still runs every July, and it keeps a certain kind of interior in demand: lounges, bars and terraces that look right when a crowd arrives after dark.

Art Deco rooms, and what suits them

Art Deco interiors have a specific logic, and furnishing them well means following it rather than fighting it. The lines are horizontal and the forms are geometric, so the furniture that sits best has clean silhouettes and strong materials rather than elaborate carving. Inlay, veneer patterns, polished metal, mirrored surfaces and deep single-colour upholstery all belong to the period.

From our range, that means velvet sofas in one strong colour rather than patterned fabric, geometric side and coffee tables, mirrored or high-gloss commodes, sunburst and geometric mirrors, and lighting with brass and glass shades rather than crystal drops. Our floor and table lamps cover much of that vocabulary.

Baroque pieces are not wrong here, but they work as a single deliberate accent rather than as a scheme: one carved and gilded mirror above a plain sideboard reads as a choice, a full baroque ensemble in an Art Deco room reads as a mistake.

Summer light, pines and salt

A town built for summer gets the summer sun at full strength, and the rooms here were designed to open to it. That is a pleasure and a problem in equal measure. Textiles fade quickly on a south-facing terrace room, untreated timber lightens within a season, and thin printed finishes show it first. Choose upholstery tones that age gracefully rather than fight the sun, and keep fine fabrics out of the direct afternoon path.

The pine grove that gives the town its name drops resin and needles across every terrace for months. Terrace furniture needs surfaces that can be wiped rather than fabric that traps it, which is why teak, wrought iron and rattan dominate our garden and terrace range, and why removable washable cushion covers are worth more here than they sound.

Salt reaches the whole quarter, and many apartments stand empty and unheated between seasons. Solid wood copes with that if properly dried and jointed to allow movement; veneers over composite board lift at the edges. Metal fittings need a real finish rather than a thin coating.

The collection: luxury furniture for every room

Our range covers the complete interior, from the entrance hall through to the terrace. Every piece is developed with experienced European manufacturers or selected individually, then checked on material quality before it enters the catalogue. The principle has not changed since the company began: offer furniture that is not found on every street corner.

Materials and craftsmanship

Solid mahogany, oak and walnut form the structural basis of most of our classical pieces. Carving is done by hand, gilding is applied as leaf rather than sprayed, and upholstery is built up in layers on a solid frame instead of over a moulded shell. Marble is selected as a slab rather than ordered by the square metre, which is why two of our marble tables are never identical.

Metalwork runs from polished brass and antique bronze to wrought iron worked in the old way. Glass and crystal components are cut, not pressed. In a room where sun and salt work on every surface for four months a year, those differences decide how a piece looks in its tenth season.

Luxury furniture in Juan-les-Pins for hotels, bars and beach clubs

This is a hospitality town, and its season is short and intense. Hotels, beach clubs, bars and restaurants along the seafront work hard from June to September and then largely stand still, which puts unusual demands on furniture: it has to survive four months of constant use and a damp winter in storage or on an unheated terrace.

Casa Padrino equips hotels, boutique hotels, restaurants, beach clubs, private clubs and event spaces across Europe, and works regularly with architects, interior design studios and project developers. The festival week in July adds a second requirement, because lounges and terraces that fill after dark need furniture that reads well under artificial light, which is where deep upholstery and real metal finishes earn their place. Our pages for luxury hotel furniture and luxury restaurant furniture describe how those projects run.

Bespoke production

Art Deco apartment buildings have curved walls, rounded balcony openings and built-in niches that standard furniture rarely fits. Bespoke production answers that: we adjust dimensions, change woods and finishes, work to a specified fabric, and build individual pieces from a drawing, including curved seating for a rounded window bay.

Larger projects begin with the plans, continue with material samples, and end with a fixed delivery date.

Delivery to Juan-les-Pins

Casa Padrino ships worldwide, and France is one of our established markets. Deliveries to Juan-les-Pins, Antibes, Golfe-Juan, Vallauris, Cannes and Nice are routine. Larger and heavier pieces travel by freight forwarder with a delivery appointment, smaller items by parcel service.

Delivery is made kerbside to the given address. Carrying items into the building, up stairs or into the room of use is not part of the standard service, so please arrange help on site in advance. Two local points are worth planning around: the streets behind the beach are congested through July and August, and many of the Art Deco buildings have small original lifts, so measure before ordering anything large.

Because we are an online supplier delivering from stock and from our workshops, we do not operate a showroom in Juan-les-Pins. What we offer instead is detailed photography, dimensions, material information and direct advice by telephone and email before the decision is made.

Why Casa Padrino for luxury furniture in Juan-les-Pins

Casa Padrino has grown into one of the internationally known names for baroque, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and contemporary luxury furniture, with customers in more than fifty countries and a catalogue running into thousands of pieces. In May 2025 the company's designer Marvin Schertl received the International Design Award for Excellence in Luxury Furniture in Cannes, presented at the Beach Ball gala dinner.

For a client here the practical value is a range that covers the Art Deco vocabulary properly rather than approximately, terrace furniture from the same house so inside and outside match, workshops able to build for a curved wall, and enough project experience to say honestly what survives a Riviera summer. The full collection is at casa-padrino.de.

Frequently asked questions about luxury furniture in Juan-les-Pins

Does Casa Padrino deliver luxury furniture to Juan-les-Pins?
Yes. Juan-les-Pins, Antibes, Golfe-Juan and the surrounding communes are regular delivery destinations. Large items travel by freight forwarder with an appointment. Delivery is kerbside to the address given, so please arrange carrying help in advance.

Which furniture suits an Art Deco apartment?
Clean silhouettes and strong materials rather than elaborate carving: velvet sofas in one strong colour, geometric tables, mirrored or high-gloss commodes, sunburst mirrors, brass and glass lighting. One baroque piece can work as a deliberate accent, a whole baroque scheme does not.

Is there a Casa Padrino shop or showroom here?
No. Casa Padrino sells online and delivers directly, which is what keeps the range this wide. Advice before purchase is given by telephone and email, with detailed photography, dimensions and material information for every piece.

What holds up to a Riviera summer?
On terraces and south-facing rooms, prefer teak, wrought iron, rattan and solid timber over thin printed finishes, choose tones that age gracefully, and use removable washable cushion covers because of the pine resin.

When is the best time for a delivery?
Outside July and August where possible. The streets behind the beach are congested through the season, and the festival week in July adds to it.

Can furniture be built for a curved wall or a balcony bay?
Yes. Dimensions, woods, finishes and fabrics can be changed, and individual pieces can be built from a drawing, including curved seating. Art Deco buildings frequently need this.

Does Casa Padrino furnish hotels, bars and beach clubs?
Yes. They are a core part of our business, planned as projects with volume pricing and coordinated delivery dates. For a seasonal property the timing of installation is part of the plan.

What are the pieces made of?
Solid mahogany, oak and walnut, marble selected by the slab, genuine leather and velvet, polished brass, antique bronze, wrought iron, teak and rattan, and cut crystal for lighting. Carving and gilding are done by hand.

How should furniture be cared for here?
Keep upholstery out of long direct sun, dust gilded surfaces dry rather than damp, treat solid wood once or twice a year, and wipe metal fittings on terrace furniture after periods of strong sea wind.

How does advice for a project work?
Send us the rooms, the plans or photographs, which way they face, and the intended use. You receive a selection with alternatives, material information and a delivery estimate, and for larger projects a written offer covering the whole scheme. Enquiries in English, French and German are handled directly.
