How to Spot a Fake Furniture Shop Online: Warning Signs and Simple Checks
Demotex GmbH · Essen · since 2007
A sofa, a bed or a dining table can easily cost several thousand euros, which is exactly why furniture attracts fraudsters. Fake online shops look polished, show beautiful photographs and advertise prices that seem almost too good to be true. Once the money has been paid, the delivery never arrives. Learning how to spot a fake furniture shop does not require technical knowledge, only a calm look at a handful of features that anyone can verify.
This guide walks you through the classic warning signs: unrealistic prices, a missing legal notice, payment by bank transfer only, copied product photos, very new web addresses and no phone number that anyone answers.
At the end we apply the same test to ourselves and show how you can verify Casa Padrino. A genuine retailer should be able to answer every one of these questions openly. You will find more on this on our page Is Casa Padrino legit?

Why furniture is such a common target
Fraudsters favour products where one deception brings in a large sum. Order values are high, customers already expect a longer wait for delivery, and by the time anyone grows suspicious the site has often vanished or reappeared under another name.
Attractive furniture photos are also easy to copy, so the shop behind them may be a mere façade. Trust verifiable facts, not first impressions.
Warning sign 1: prices that look too good to be true
The most common feature of a fake shop is pricing far below the usual level. A sofa that costs several thousand euros elsewhere is suddenly offered for a fraction of that. Countdown timers and messages such as "only two left" often come with it.
Compare the price with similar pieces elsewhere: good materials, craftsmanship and freight delivery have a cost. Pressure to decide quickly is a warning sign in itself.
Warning sign 2: a missing or incomplete legal notice
In Germany and across the EU, online shops must state clearly who they are. A proper legal notice includes the full company name and legal form, a postal address, the authorised representative, an email address and, for registered companies, the register number and court, usually with a VAT number.
Fake shops often have none, or details that do not match. For German companies, the register number can be looked up free of charge on the official common register portal of the German federal states, and any EU VAT number can be confirmed through the European VIES system. A map service will also show whether the address fits a furniture retailer.

“Unfortunately the stove finally broke after 10 years; kindly, they quickly helped us get a spare part. It works wonderfully again! Thanks and best wishes! I can highly recommend the company!”

Warning sign 3: payment by bank transfer only
Many fake shops display several payment options at first. Just before checkout, card payment or PayPal is suddenly "unavailable", leaving only an advance bank transfer, sometimes sweetened with an extra reduction. The aim is always the same: once money has landed in a foreign account, a transfer is very hard to recover.
An account in a private person's name, or in a different country from the company's seat, is a clear alarm signal. Reputable retailers offer several payment methods, including options with buyer protection such as PayPal or credit card. We explain this in detail on our page Secure payment.
Warning sign 4: copied product photos
A fake shop has no stock, so it has no photographs of its own. It borrows images from manufacturers, retailers or interior portals. Another company's watermark or inconsistent photo styles can give it away.
A reverse image search settles the question quickly: right-click a product photo and choose to search for the image, or upload it to a search engine. If the same picture appears on many sites with widely varying prices, be careful. A genuine retailer can send you extra photographs, close-ups or exact dimensions on request.
Warning sign 5: a very new web address
Fake shops rarely last long. They collect orders for a few weeks and then disappear, so their domains are often only a few months old. Be wary of names built from words like "furniture" and "outlet", or of a known retailer's address with altered spelling.
Public domain lookup services show the registration date. A young domain alone proves nothing, but combined with other warning signs it is an important clue.

Warning sign 6: no phone number and nobody to talk to
Anyone who sells furniture has to be reachable: for questions about dimensions, fabrics, delivery dates or damage. Fake shops avoid direct contact. They give no phone number, or one that nobody answers.
So try the simplest test of all: call before you order and ask a specific question, such as the seat height of an armchair. A real retailer will answer. If nobody does, you already have your answer.
Reading reviews and trust badges with care
Fake shops often display glowing testimonials or trust badges on their own pages. Both are easy to forge. A badge is only meaningful if it is clickable and leads to a certificate on the issuer's own website that belongs to exactly that shop. A plain image without a link means nothing.
Read reviews where the retailer does not control them, such as a Google Business Profile or review platforms. Our page Casa Padrino reviews explains how to put review figures into context.

What to do if you have already paid
If you suspect you have fallen for a fake shop, act quickly. Contact your bank immediately and ask it to recall the transfer. The sooner you call, the better the chances. For PayPal or card payments, open a buyer protection claim or request a chargeback.
Keep all records and report the matter to the police. If you are unsure whether an offer using the Casa Padrino name really comes from us, simply call us. Further advice is on our page Buying luxury furniture online.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about fake shops
What is the quickest way to spot a fake shop?
Three checks help most: is there a complete legal notice with a register number, is there a phone number that someone answers, and are several payment methods with buyer protection offered?
Are very low furniture prices always a sign of fraud?
Not always, but prices far below the usual level across the entire range are one of the most frequent warning signs.
How can I check whether a company really exists?
Look up the register number from the legal notice in the official commercial register. An EU VAT number can be confirmed through the European VIES system.
Why is paying in advance by bank transfer risky?
Once executed, a bank transfer is very hard to reverse. PayPal or credit card offer additional protection in case of a dispute.
How do I find out whether product photos are copied?
Use a reverse image search. If the same photo appears on many sites with very different prices, it probably does not come from the seller.
Can I trust reviews shown on the shop itself?
Reviews that only appear on the shop's own pages cannot be verified. Reviews in business profiles and on review platforms are more meaningful.
Is Casa Padrino a real company?
Yes. Casa Padrino is the brand of Demotex GmbH in Essen, registered at the Essen local court under HRB 24428, managing director Marvin Schertl. The company was founded in 2007.
Can I visit Casa Padrino before ordering?
Yes. Visits to Hammer Str. 64 in Essen are possible Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm.
Which payment methods does Casa Padrino accept?
You can pay by PayPal, credit card or bank transfer. Prices include statutory VAT, shipping costs are shown before you order, and you receive an invoice from Demotex GmbH.
What should I do if I find a suspicious site using the Casa Padrino name?
Do not order there, and let us know by phone or by email at info@casa-padrino.de. Our online shop is at www.casa-padrino.de, and our full company details are in the legal notice.
