Side Table Next to the Bed: Which Height Suits the Mattress
A side table next to the bed should keep a lamp, book or glass of water within easy reach. But which height is the right one? If the table is too low, you have to bend down. The top edge of the side table should be approximately level with the top edge of the mattress or a maximum of five centimetres below it. This allows you to reach the table surface comfortably while lying down, without stretching your arm or sitting up. With a mattress height of 55 centimetres above the floor, a table with a height of 50 to 55 centimetres is suitable. If the mattress is at 60 centimetres, the table may be 55 to 60 centimetres high.
Measuring Mattress Height Correctly
Mattress height is measured from the floor to the top of the mattress, not to the bed frame edge. Modern box spring beds often reach 60 to 70 centimetres, while classic bed frames with slatted bases usually range between 50 and 60 centimetres.
