International Furniture Delivery: Luxury Furniture Shipped Across Europe and Worldwide

Casa Padrino is the furniture brand of Demotex GmbH, based in Essen, Germany. Since 2007 we have supplied luxury furniture in baroque, Art déco and classic style, together with lighting, mirrors, accessories, garden furniture and sculptures, to customers in Germany, throughout Europe and around the world. This page explains, plainly and without sales talk, how a delivery abroad works and what you can do to prepare for it.

We deliberately quote no flat prices or transit times here, because both depend on the destination, the size of the order and the type of furniture. The shipping costs for your order are shown in the shop before you complete it, and for anything else we are happy to advise you personally.

Where Casa Padrino delivers

We deliver to every country of the European Union, to European countries outside the EU and to many destinations worldwide. Our customers abroad include private clients furnishing a home, hotels, restaurants and bars, as well as architects and interior designers managing projects in other countries.

For planning, one distinction matters more than any other: is the destination inside or outside the EU? Within the single market, goods travel without customs formalities. For countries outside the EU, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Norway, customs clearance and import charges come into play. Both situations are described below.

Delivery within the European Union

For customers in France, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands or any other member state, ordering from us is almost as straightforward as ordering within Germany. There is no customs declaration and no clearance at the border. Prices in the shop include statutory VAT, and you receive a proper invoice issued by Demotex GmbH.

Consumer rights are also largely harmonised across the EU. Consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal from receipt of the goods; custom-made pieces are excluded. The statutory warranty applies as well, which for consumers in the EU is generally two years. The full conditions are set out on our withdrawal page.

Delivery outside the EU: customs and import VAT

When furniture is shipped to a country outside the European Union, it has to be cleared through customs on import. Depending on the destination, customs duties, import VAT and clearance fees may apply. The amounts and the procedure are determined by the rules of the country concerned, not by us. Before a larger order it is therefore worth asking your national customs authority which charges are usual for furniture.

Customs authorities need complete paperwork. You receive a proper invoice from Demotex GmbH showing all details of the goods and the sender. How German VAT is treated for your delivery, and which additional documents your country requires, is best discussed with us before you order.

Packaging for long distances

A piece of furniture that crosses several countries is handled and reloaded more often than one travelling a short distance. Carved frames, gilded surfaces, velvet upholstery and mirror glass therefore need proper protection. Large furniture is securely packed so that corners, edges and delicate surfaces are shielded throughout the journey.

Please keep the packaging until you have inspected the goods. If damage has occurred, it helps to clarify what happened, and if you withdraw from the purchase, it protects the piece on its way back.

Freight forwarder or parcel service

How your order travels depends on its size. Large items such as sofas, beds, cabinets and tables are delivered by freight forwarder; smaller items such as lamps, accessories and decorative objects are sent by parcel service.

Deliveries by forwarder are made as kerbside delivery, which means the goods are handed over at the street in front of your delivery address. For heavy pieces, please arrange for enough people to help carry them inside.

Delivery appointment and handover

With an international delivery by forwarder, being easy to reach makes all the difference. When ordering, please give a phone number, including the country code, and an email address at which you can reliably be contacted. The forwarder usually arranges the delivery with you in advance so that someone is present to receive the goods.

If the delivery address is in a pedestrian zone, a narrow old-town street, on an island or in a mountain village, please let us know beforehand.

Preparing on site: measurements and access

Before a large piece sets off on a long journey, it should be certain that it will reach its place. Measure doors, hallways, staircases and lifts, and compare the figures with the dimensions in the product description.

If you are unsure, send us photos and measurements of the access route. On request we provide additional detail photos and exact dimensions.

If something happens in transit

Even with careful packaging, damage can occasionally occur over a long route. What matters then is the right procedure. Inspect the goods on receipt and note any visible damage directly on the delivery note. Take photos of the packaging and the furniture and send them to us by email at info@casa-padrino.de.

We then handle the claim with the forwarder and arrange repair, replacement or a refund. The procedure is described in detail on our page about furniture transport damage.

Payment, invoice and peace of mind

Orders from abroad can be paid by PayPal, credit card or bank transfer. You receive a proper invoice from Demotex GmbH, Hammer Str. 64, 45239 Essen, Germany, registered at the Essen local court under HRB 24428, VAT ID DE279640593.

If you are travelling in Germany, you are welcome to visit us in Essen, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
