Luxury Furniture Eze: Furnishing the Eagle's Nest of the Riviera with Casa Padrino

Luxury furniture in Eze is chosen against gravity. The old village hangs 429 metres above the Mediterranean on its rock between Nice and Monaco, its lanes are stairs of stone that no vehicle has ever entered, and everything that furnishes a house inside it has been carried there by hand. Casa Padrino, one of the leading international specialists for luxury furniture and high-end interior decoration, delivers to Eze and across the whole of the Cote d'Azur.

This page begins with the village itself, because Eze imposes conditions that exist nowhere else on the coast. Here a commode is not simply chosen for a wall. It is chosen for a doorway, a stair turn and a vaulted ceiling, and the measuring tape comes out before the catalogue does.

Eze: a stone village 429 metres above the sea

Eze is the eagle's nest of the Riviera in the most literal sense. The medieval village winds around a spur of rock high above the sea, built for defence rather than comfort, with houses that grow directly out of the stone and lanes so narrow and so steep that they are effectively staircases. Cars stop at the foot of the village; from there, everything moves on foot.

At the summit, where the castle once stood, the Jardin Exotique now grows agaves and aloes among the ruins, with a view that runs along the coast to the peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and out over the open sea. It is one of the celebrated viewpoints of the entire coast, and it explains at a glance why people have always accepted the inconvenience of living up here.

The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche walked the mule path that climbs from the shore to the village, and found the setting fertile enough that the path now carries his name. It drops steeply through pine and scrub to Eze-sur-Mer, the second half of the commune down at sea level, with its beach, its railway station and its quiet residential streets along the shore.

Between the two runs the third Eze: the villas of the Moyenne Corniche and the hillsides around it, modern houses built for the view, with glass fronts, terraces and pools suspended over the sea. Village houses with vaulted rooms and thick walls above, panoramic villas below: the commune holds two opposite kinds of home, and each asks something different of its furniture.

Why furnishing in Eze follows its own rules

The first rule is the route. In the old village every delivery ends with porters, stone steps and low doorways, so weight, dimensions and the possibility of assembly inside the room decide what can be owned at all. A bed that arrives in parts, a table with a removable top, an armchair that passes a doorway of seventy centimetres: these are not details here, they are the difference between possible and impossible.

The second rule is the nature of the rooms. Village houses stack small vaulted spaces with walls a metre thick, deep window reveals and little direct light. Rooms like that reward restraint and reflection: one commode of real quality, a gilded mirror placed to multiply the light, a pair of fine chairs, a compact armchair. Five polite pieces would crowd such a room; two excellent ones complete it.

The third rule belongs to the villas. On the Moyenne Corniche the architecture is glass and the subject is the horizon, so furniture must hold its own against the brightest light on the coast without competing with the view. Sun protection for fabrics matters at this altitude, tones should age gracefully rather than fight the light, and the terrace deserves the same seriousness as the salon, because in Eze the terrace is where the village lives from spring to autumn.

Vaulted rooms and glass fronts: pieces that suit each

A village house in Eze is furnished piece by piece, never as a set. Against stone and vault, carved and gilded furniture shows to extraordinary advantage: a baroque commode glowing against a rough wall, a tall mirror doubling a small window, chairs with visible woodwork around a compact table. Height helps where floor area is scarce, and lighting should be treated as furniture, with wall lights and lamps replacing the daylight the thick walls keep out.

A corniche villa reverses the task. The room is large, the glazing is the architecture and the view will always win, so the furniture must be few and certain: one sculptural armchair placed against the horizon, a generous sofa in a tone that holds the light, a marble table, a mirror wall that brings the sea into the back of the room. The error here is clutter; the discipline is to stop one piece early.

Both kinds of home share one need: pieces of genuine character. In a commune this dramatic, neutral furniture simply disappears.

The collection: luxury furniture for every room

Our range covers the complete interior, from the entrance hall through to the terrace. Every piece is developed with experienced European manufacturers or selected individually, then checked on material quality before it enters the catalogue. The principle has not changed since the company began: offer furniture that is not found on every street corner.

For Eze the emphasis falls naturally on armchairs with real presence, mirrors that move light through stone rooms, commodes that carry a whole wall on their own, and fine chairs that earn their place in rooms where every piece is counted.

Materials and craftsmanship

Solid mahogany, oak and walnut form the structural basis of most of our classical pieces. Carving is done by hand, gilding is applied as leaf rather than sprayed, and upholstery is built up in layers on a solid frame instead of over a moulded shell. Marble is selected as a slab rather than ordered by the square metre, which is why two of our marble tables are never identical.

Metalwork runs from polished brass and antique bronze to wrought iron worked in the old way, and the terrace ranges are built in materials chosen for the Riviera climate. Glass and crystal components for chandeliers are cut, not pressed. Behind that stands long experience with European workshops in Italy, Spain, Portugal and eastern Europe. Where a project needs something the catalogue does not contain, those same workshops build it.

Luxury furniture in Eze for hotels, restaurants and project interiors

For a village of a few hundred inhabitants, Eze carries an astonishing weight of hospitality. Old village houses have become some of the most celebrated small luxury hotels on the coast, their terrace restaurants hang directly over the sea, and the corniche adds further hotels, spas and event venues with the same panoramic ambition. Casa Padrino equips such interiors across Europe and works regularly with architects, interior design studios and project developers.

Eze adds a logistical pressure few destinations match: an entire refurbishment may have to be carried in by hand, piece by piece, through lanes that never widen. We plan such projects backwards from the opening date and forwards from the access route, and we design the delivery as carefully as the interior. Our pages for luxury hotel furniture, luxury restaurant furniture and luxury villa furniture set out the process.

Bespoke production: built for the carry

In Eze bespoke production is less about taste than about physics. We adjust dimensions, change woods and finishes, work to a specified fabric, and build individual pieces from a drawing, and in this commune the drawing usually starts with the route: the width of the lane, the turn of the stair, the height of the doorway.

Typical commissions are a bed built in sections that assemble in the room, a commode sized to the one flat wall of a vaulted chamber, a wardrobe front matched to an alcove, or a sofa for a corniche villa made to the exact width of a window bay. Larger projects begin with the plans, continue with material samples, and end with a fixed delivery date.

Delivery to Eze and the Cote d'Azur

Casa Padrino ships worldwide, and deliveries to Eze, Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Cap-d'Ail, La Turbie and Monaco are routine. Larger and heavier pieces travel by freight forwarder with a delivery appointment, smaller items by parcel service. An overview of the region is on our page for luxury furniture on the Cote d'Azur.

Delivery is made kerbside to the given address. Carrying items into the building, up the lanes or into the room of use is not part of the standard service. In Eze that matters more than anywhere else on this coast, because the old village has no vehicle access at all: the forwarder stops at the nearest accessible point at the foot of the village, and the climb continues by hand. Please arrange porters or helpers in advance, tell us the address and the dimensions of doorways and stairs before ordering anything large, and we will plan what can be supplied in parts. We would rather raise it before the order than after it.

Because we are an online supplier delivering from stock and from our workshops, we do not operate a showroom in Eze. What we offer instead is detailed photography, material information, and direct advice by telephone and email before the decision is made.

Why Casa Padrino for luxury furniture in Eze

Casa Padrino has grown into one of the internationally known names for baroque, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and contemporary luxury furniture, with customers in more than fifty countries and a catalogue running into thousands of pieces. In May 2025 the company's designer Marvin Schertl received the International Design Award for Excellence in Luxury Furniture in Cannes, presented during the Beach Ball gala dinner.

For a client in Eze the practical value is a range with enough character to stand up to the most dramatic setting on the coast, workshops able to build to a measured drawing when the catalogue will not pass the doorway, and enough project experience to say plainly when a piece will not survive the climb in one piece. The full collection is at casa-padrino.de.

Frequently asked questions about luxury furniture in Eze

Does Casa Padrino deliver luxury furniture to Eze?
Yes. Eze and the surrounding communes are regular delivery destinations. Large and heavy items travel by freight forwarder with an appointment, smaller pieces by parcel service. Delivery is kerbside to the address given, so please arrange carrying help in advance.

Is there a Casa Padrino shop or showroom in Eze?
No. Casa Padrino sells online and delivers directly, which is what keeps the range this wide. Advice before purchase is given by telephone and email, with detailed photography, dimensions and material information for every piece.

How do deliveries work in the car-free old village?
The forwarder stops at the nearest accessible point at the foot of the village and everything continues by hand up the stone lanes. Dimensions and weight decide what is possible, so tell us the address before ordering; many pieces can be supplied in parts and assembled in the room.

Which furniture suits a vaulted village house room?
Few pieces of real quality: a carved or painted commode, a tall gilded mirror to multiply the light, fine chairs and a compact armchair. Thick walls and low vaults reward restraint, height and reflection rather than quantity.

And a villa on the Moyenne Corniche?
Few pieces with genuine presence, placed against the glazing rather than competing with it: a sculptural armchair, a generous sofa, a marble table, a mirror that carries the sea into the room. Choose tones that age gracefully in strong light.

Does Casa Padrino furnish hotels and restaurants in Eze?
Yes. Hotels, restaurants, spas and event venues are a core part of our business, planned as projects with volume pricing and coordinated delivery dates, and in Eze with a delivery plan designed around the carry.

Are bespoke pieces possible?
Yes. Dimensions, woods, finishes and fabrics can be changed, and individual pieces can be built from a drawing. In Eze bespoke work usually starts from the route: beds in sections, tables with removable tops, commodes sized to a single wall.

What are the pieces made of?
Solid mahogany, oak and walnut, marble selected by the slab, genuine leather and velvet, polished brass, antique bronze, wrought iron, and cut crystal for lighting. Carving and gilding are done by hand.

Will strong sun and sea air damage the furniture?
Direct southern sun fades untreated textiles and lightens raw timber, so we advise on fabrics and finishes that cope with panoramic glazing, and our terrace ranges use wrought iron, weatherproof rattan and treated materials made for the Riviera climate.

How does advice for a project in Eze work?
Send us the rooms, the plans or photographs, the access route and the intended use. You receive a selection with alternatives, material information and a delivery estimate, and for larger projects a written offer covering the whole scheme. Enquiries in English, French and German are all handled directly.
