Sofa in a Bay Window: How to Use the Angle
A bay window offers plenty of light through its window front and creates a distinctive spatial feature, but it presents a challenge when furnishing. The Basic Shape of the Bay Window Determines the Furnishing

A typical bay window measures between 150 and 250 cm in width, often 60 to 100 cm in depth. For a classic two-seater sofa, you should plan for at least 140 cm in width and 80 cm in depth. If the bay window is narrower, compact models with a seat depth of 50 to 60 cm are suitable, specifically designed for small niches. Measure the interior dimensions of the bay window precisely before purchasing and take into account radiators, window handles and wall projections.
Custom-Made or Modular Solutions

Consider Light Exposure and Radiators
Bay windows are flooded with light, which is pleasant when reading or relaxing, but can lead to overheating in summer. Choose light-coloured, durable fabrics for the upholstery that do not fade. If there is a radiator in the bay window, the sofa must not completely cover it. A distance of at least 5 cm from the heating ensures sufficient air circulation. With floor-to-ceiling windows, the sofa should not stand directly against the glass to avoid draughts and thermal bridges.

A sofa in a bay window works best when it fits into the overall design. In classic rooms, models with curved backrests or velvet covers are suitable, emphasising the special character of the niche. Modern interiors can accommodate clean lines and subtle colours. Ensure that the sofa does not appear too bulky and does not obstruct the view outside. A low backrest or an open armrest keeps the space airy.
Additional Elements for More Comfort
Complement the sofa in the bay window with a small side table, a floor lamp or a shelf within reach. This creates a functional reading corner or a retreat. Cushions and throws make the seating area more comfortable without taking up much space. If the bay window is large enough, a narrow coffee table can also be placed in front of it. It is important that the passageways in the room remain clear and the bay window niche does not appear cluttered.
